Polish President Andrzej Duda refused to take a joint photo with the participants of the UN climate conference (COP-29) in Baku due to the presence of the self-proclaimed president of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko.
This was reported by the Polish publication Polsat News on Tuesday, November 12.
As the journalist of the publication found out, Duda “deliberately” did not appear in the group photo of the summit participants.
“President [Польщі] boycotted this moment because Belarusian leader Oleksandr Lukashenko was present there. It was the same last year. This is a symbolic demarcation, among other things, in connection with the participation of Belarus on the Ukrainian front,” the journalist said.
“We are approaching the point of no return.” The UN has called for a review of measures to curb global warming
Sources of the publication close to Duda said that this was a conscious decision by the Polish president.
“A family photo is a family photo. Mr. President decided that he does not want to have a family photo with Alexander Lukashenko,” he said.
As the interlocutor of the publication added, such gestures are “important in politics.”
On November 10, it became known that representatives of the radical Taliban group will participate in the UN climate conference for the first time after coming to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
A diplomatic source familiar with the matter told Reuters that Azerbaijan invited representatives of the Afghan environmental protection agency to the conference as observers.
