Duda insists that Ukraine should receive an invitation to NATO right now

President of Poland Andrzej Duda insists that Ukraine should receive an invitation to NATO right now – being in a state of war. He announced this in Warsaw at a joint press conference with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi. “The main thing is the security guarantees that NATO countries can provide. The biggest guarantee that would be and hopefully will be membership in the Alliance and all guarantees are related to Article 5. We understand that full accession is possible after the end of the war, but today I, as the president of Poland and a neighbor, insistently demand that NATO countries extend an invitation to Ukraine. This would be the first step related to the provision of real security guarantees by the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance,” said Duda. ”, — write: www.radiosvoboda.org

Previously, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, answering questions about the prospects of Ukraine’s membership in NATO, said that “it is happening step by step”, but the focus should be on urgent needs. He also reminded that the allies agree that the future of Ukraine is in NATO, and they are working on “building a bridge”, it consists, for example, of separate bilateral security agreements between the allies and Ukraine.

Kyiv insists that Ukraine’s membership in NATO is the best guarantee of the country’s security.

On December 3, 2024 – the anniversary of the signing of the Budapest Memorandum – Kyiv declared that Ukraine does not agree to any alternatives, surrogates or substitutes for Ukraine’s full membership in NATO.
