Defense Express said that during the Russian attack on Ukraine on Saturday, January 18, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down a drone with a new marking. The photos of the wreckage were obtained by analysts from their own sources, according to a publication on the website.
According to analysts, new “series” of Shahed-type kamikaze drones received the designation Ъ, and the numbering indicates that the enemy has already produced more than 200 such drones. There is currently no other information about the new types of drones, adds Defense Express.
Not only shahedis. Secret factory in Russia ramps up production of drones for war against Ukraine — CNN
The publication says that the series of Shaheds, which are now actively used by the Russians, has the designation Y. At the end of December 2024, one of the drones had the number Y 11934, which made it possible to conclude that the Russian Federation could reach a production rate of up to 2,000 Shahed-136 drones per month, and about 10,000 per year.
However, this number of drones may be the case if the numbering corresponds to the real number, experts added.
“In general, this is already the fourth series of kamikaze drones of the shahed type, which are used or used by the invaders, in particular, the first one had the designation M, later there was Y, which had a number of modernizations, and also the K series, which was already significantly different from the previous ones and used more Russian components.” – adds the project.
In December 2024, ISW wrote that Russia continues to ramp up shaheed production ahead of the 2024-2025 winter campaign, despite sanctions and restrictions.
It was reported that Russia planned to produce 10,000 Shahed-like decoy drones by the end of 2024 to defeat Ukrainian air defense systems. At the plant in Tatarstan, new workshops were built, protective nets were installed, and a railway branch was created for the supply of components from China.
$16 million in losses: in Russia, a warehouse with parts for Shaheds — GUR — burned down
In the report of the Institute for the Study of War on December 2, it was reported that the increase in the number of cases in which Russia launches up to 80-100 Shahed missiles over Ukraine in one attack indicates that the Russian Federation is managing to increase the domestic production of these and other UAVs.
Russia has also started launching warheads with a thermobaric charge over Ukraine, which have a more destructive effect than conventional ones.
