The governor of the Kostroma region, Serhiy Sitnikov, also informed about the attack in Volgorechensk, but did not specify the object that was hit.
“In the morning, the residents of the city heard the operation of the security system – there were several bangs. At the moment, operational services are working on the site, which are eliminating the consequences at the energy infrastructure facilities. Power supply is not disrupted. There are no casualties,” the official said in a statement.
Local residents shot a firestorm over the Kostroma DRES, according to an analysis of eyewitness footage conducted by the Telegram channel.
Kostroma DRES is the third thermal power plant in Russia in terms of installed capacity.
After the start of a full-scale invasion of Russia, various objects on the territory of the Russian Federation are subjected to airstrikes. Most often, in 2024 and 2025, oil refineries (refineries) became the target of attacks.
Most of the attacks were confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stating that the Defense Forces of Ukraine “systematically implement measures aimed at reducing the combat potential of the Russian occupation forces, as well as at forcing the Russian Federation to stop armed aggression against Ukraine.”
