Videos published on social networks show a bright glow in the sky and a fire near an industrial zone.
NASA FIRMS fire monitoring systems also confirm the presence of hot spots in the vicinity of the Yefremovsky Synthetic Rubber Plant OJSC.
NASA FIRMSThe governor of the Tula region confirmed the attack and subsequent fire at “one of the enterprises”, but did not specify the extent of the destruction.
The Efremov plant is one of the largest producers of synthetic rubber in Russia. This enterprise is critically important for Russian “defense” because it produces dual-purpose raw materials.
Synthetic rubbers and polymers produced at the enterprise are necessary for the production of rubber products for military equipment. First of all, we are talking about the production of tires for military trucks, wheeled armored personnel carriers and aviation equipment.
Polyisobutylene additives produced by the plant are of particular importance. They are a key component in the creation of special fuel and lubricants and hydraulic fluids that power tank engines, infantry fighting vehicles and artillery tractors. In addition, the plant’s products are used to manufacture sealants, insulating materials for military electronics, and anti-corrosion coatings for weapons.
