On the night of November 23, drones attacked the Shatursk DRES in the west of the Moscow region of Russia. This is reported by the Russian mass media, in particular Astra, publishing footage shot by local residents. Andriy Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow region of the Russian Federation, confirmed the attack.

After the impact on the DRES, a fire broke out. Astra’s OSINT analysis confirmed that it was this facility that was attacked. It is likely that the power output node caught fire, this is an infrastructure complex through which the power plant transmits the generated electricity to the unified energy system. The press release of the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia indicated that the transformers were engaged.

Andriy Vorobyov, the governor of the Moscow region of Russia, confirmed that DRES was attacked.

“Part of the drones were destroyed by air defense forces, some fell on the territory of the station. A fire broke out at the facility, now it is contained, emergency services continue their work,” said Vorobyov.

According to him, the electricity supply was not interrupted, but with heat, as it follows from his words, there are interruptions, mobile boiler houses were sent to the district. There were no casualties.

Shaturskaya DRES is a thermal power plant with a capacity of 1,500 MW. This is one of the oldest power plants in Russia, founded in 1920.

Ukrainian military strikes have not yet commented.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, on the night of November 23, two drones were shot down over the Moscow region of the Russian Federation. On Sunday morning, according to Moscow Mayor Serhiy Sobyanin, two more UAVs were shot down. Moscow’s Vnukovo airport stopped working.

The largest number of drones, according to the Russian military, were shot down overnight over the Black Sea and occupied Crimea.

Since 2022, the Russian military has been regularly striking energy facilities in Ukraine.

Ukraine has stepped up drone attacks deep inside Russia, seeking to knock out oil refineries and pipelines and cripple Moscow’s biggest source of financing the war in Ukraine.

Most of the attacks were confirmed by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stating that the Defense Forces of Ukraine “systematically implement measures aimed at reducing the combat potential of the Russian occupation forces, as well as at forcing the Russian Federation to stop armed aggression against Ukraine.”

Recently, the Ukrainian military has increasingly struck energy facilities on the territory of Russia and the occupied territories.
