The British economy is running out of excuses. For more than 10 years, growth has been sluggish. The political chaos after the 2016 Brexit referendum didn’t help. The COVID‑19 pandemic and lockdowns have certainly dampened growth — as have the spike in energy prices following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and the rise in interest rates following a spike in inflation.
