“This is a meeting in the Weimar+ format. As you know, the Weimar Triangle is a formula of cooperation between Poland, Germany and France. But because the times are demanding and the issues are dramatic, we have also invited other countries and the future high representative. My friend Andrii Sybigu was also invited to the meeting (Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine – ed.), and I hope he will be able to attend. If not, I will inform him of the results,” said Sikorsky.
The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry emphasized that the situation in Ukraine is quite complicated and mentioned Russia’s attempts to destroy the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
“Putin is doing this to show that he still intends to impose his decision on Ukraine. He is trying to strengthen his position by causing a wave of refugees from Ukraine to the EU. We need to think and discuss contingencies about what to do to help Ukraine strengthen its position in the negotiations if that happens,” Sikorskyi summed up.
The top official of Poland also welcomed the probable decision of the US administration to allow Ukraine to strike with long-range weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation.
“Ukraine is a victim of aggression under international law, the UN Charter, decisions of the UN General Assembly. We are not only obliged to condemn the aggressor, we also have the obligation to take countermeasures against the aggressor and bring him back to compliance with international law,” said Sikorskyi.
Last week, Sikorsky announced that negotiations regarding the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine will be held in Warsaw in the “Weimar Triangle +” format. It was noted that representatives of Germany, Poland and France will be present at the meeting, as well as Kaya Callas, who is to become the new high representative of the European Union for foreign policy and security policy.
