However, it later became known that for many hours the police, the Homeland Security Agency and the Military Counterintelligence Service did not want to deal with the case. And the Ukrainian Ilya S., who stayed at the airport for at least 9 days, was arrested only thanks to the pressure of rank-and-file employees on their managers.

According to mass media, law enforcement officers first drew attention to a suspicious man on December 17. Then he said that he missed the plane to Canada and the next flight was not until the next day.

Ilya S. spent many hours in the airport cafe, he sat with an open laptop, sometimes staying late at night.

On December 25, the same security patrol spotted him again in the cafe. And the man could not logically explain why he did not fly to Canada, he also refused to show a valid plane ticket and an identity document.

Then police officers from the airport police station and employees of the border service were called to the cafe.

The police officers checked the man’s documents and found out from them that he is Ilya S., a 26-year-old citizen of Ukraine, who has not been to his homeland since 2021.

According to the publication’s sources, he often visited the countries of the Middle East that cooperate with Russia, including Syria and Lebanon.

The services found the man’s Polish, Canadian and already invalid British visas. And during the search of the luggage, they found about 5 kilograms of porridge, onions and a teapot with traces of porridge in it. The Ukrainian could not explain it.

The man also had a large amount of electronic equipment with him, including headphones, a microphone, chargers, an extension cord, two skeins of network cable, a metal box the size of a pocket edition of a book, to which many antennas were attached. It turned out that it was a jamming device.

The media also learned that during the two weeks preceding the detention of the Ukrainian, the airport experienced several failures, in particular in the system of informing about the arrival and departure of flights and other information systems for passengers.

The police wanted to officially detain the man, but had to wait for a decision from above. Later, the management ordered to release the Ukrainian. AVB and military counterintelligence also did not want to interfere in the case.

“When everyone ignored them, the police finally got angry. Until then, they solved everything over the phone, unofficially…But then they officially reported the case on the radio station, and everything is recorded there. They recorded everything they could: that there is a person with a silencer, that there were jamming failures at the airport, that there is a suspicion of sabotage, that the man cannot explain his actions. Only then did the case become official,” the source said.

Around 5 in the morning, an official decision was received to detain the Ukrainian and hand him over to the Anti-Terrorism and Murder Department of the Metropolitan Police Force.

The case of the Ukrainian is currently being handled by the Warsaw Prosecutor’s Office. According to her, “at this stage of the proceedings, among other things, the exact period of stay of the suspect Ilya S. on the territory of Poland, as well as on the territory of the Chopin Airport is established. Recordings from surveillance cameras located on the territory of the airport have been secured, which are subject to appropriate inspection.”

The district court arrested the Ukrainian for 1 month, but it is unofficially known that the possibility of extending the arrest is being considered.

Also, at the end of December, a man was detained in Poland who could film railway infrastructure and the transportation of military equipment.

In addition, damage to the railway track in the central part of Poland was discovered.
