He said this on January 24, commenting on new decisions in defense, Channel 24 reports.
As an example, Kostenko cited the situation with the law on contracts for youth aged 18-24 in the Armed Forces. The law was passed, but it did not prescribe the right to deferment after contract service. Because of this, people who served from 18 to 19 years could be called up as conscripts immediately after demobilization.
“The Verkhovna Rada wanted to fix it together with the Ministry of Defense. The National Security Committee submitted the draft law, but populist deputies began to shout that something was wrong, and many voted without understanding. Thus, people who fought were not given the right to a reprieve. This is absurd,” said Kostenko.
He called on the deputies to carefully read draft laws and not succumb to populist provocations: “People aged 18-25 who left, believed in us, have the right to a postponement. This should be enshrined in the law, it is our duty. But the deputies did not vote because they do not read the laws. And that’s a problem.”
