Ukraine periodically receives Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles in small batches from the partner countries of Britain and France. And these missiles are really few in the world.

This was reported by Defense Express.

According to Defense Express, Britain ordered the production of 900 missiles and France – 500 SCALP in 1997. And in 1999, Italy ordered another 200 missiles. It is worth noting that these missiles were also ordered by countries that are unlikely to supply them to Ukraine.

For example, the UAE, which in 1997 ordered a subversion of Storm Shadow called Black Shaheen in the amount of 600 units. Greece ordered 90 units in 2000 and 2003.

There is also information in the media that Saudi Arabia ordered 200 of these missiles in 2006. And Qatar ordered 140 missiles in 2015. India may also have ordered a small number of Storm Shadows in 2016 along with the Rafale. However, the last customer was Egypt – it received them together with the ordered French fighters in the second half of the 2010s.

From this it can be concluded that there are more than 2600 units in the world, and an unknown number “plus” for India and Egypt.

At the same time, the manufacturer Storm Shadow / SCALP stated that as of 2017, about 3,000 missiles were officially produced and ordered, and the number of existing and future operators – 9. It follows that the number of operators, including Saudi Arabia, as well as the estimated total number of ordered cruise missiles coincides.

However, as Defense Express writes, it should be taken into account that only those missiles that are in the arsenal of Great Britain, France and Italy are available to Ukraine. That is, it is about 1,600 missiles. At the same time, part of this amount, about 100 pieces, could be used during various operations, starting from 2003 in Iraq.

It is also worth considering the restoration and maintenance of existing missiles. After all, France and Great Britain ordered a “mid-life cycle” overhaul in 2017 with a plan to receive the first cruise missiles in 2020. Although the initial plans may not have covered all the missiles, they were definitely to be expanded after 2022.

Another factor is the additional production of Storm Shadow. After all, the customers, most likely, received new missiles. It follows that the Storm Shadow/SCALP production lines at MBDA may still be “warm” and missile production may well be underway.

Earlier it was reported that Great Britain sent dozens more Storm Shadow missiles to Ukraine to replenish the stock of long-range missiles, which at that time were exhausted.

On November 20, the Armed Forces of Ukraine used British Storm Shadow cruise missiles for the first time. In Russia, they complain about the arrival of 12 missiles at a target in the Kursk region.
