The department emphasized that the status of Crimea as a Ukrainian territory is not subject to discussion. Earlier, the head of Poland’s foreign policy department, Radoslaw Sikorski, suggested considering the transfer of the peninsula under the UN mandate to end the war with Russia.

It is worth noting that the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not mention Sikorsky, nor does it say who exactly is trying to discuss the status of Crimea.

“Ukraine’s territorial integrity has never been and cannot be a subject of discussion or compromise. Crimea is Ukraine. Full stop. On the side of Ukraine are our Defense Forces, partners, the UN Charter and international law. Crimea is an important center of the European security architecture. Its full restoration possible only after the complete de-occupation of the entire territory of Ukraine, including the Ukrainian peninsula,” the Ukrainian foreign policy department said.

They noted that they expect further resolute support from partners to force Russia to return to respect for international law and the UN Charter, withdraw its troops and weapons from the entire sovereign territory of Ukraine and restore its territorial integrity, as well as hold Russia accountable for its aggression against Ukraine and for all crimes committed.

“All efforts should be aimed at achieving these goals as soon as possible, and not to satisfy, in one way or another, the appetites of the Kremlin at the expense of the interests of Ukraine and international law,” the Foreign Ministry added.

Sikorsky declared about Crimea – detailsRadoslav Sikorsky made a statement regarding Crimea during a discussion at the 20th international conference in Kyiv. Judging by this quote, Sikorsky believes it is possible to compromise on Crimea in order to end the war.

“Crimea is symbolically important for Russia and especially for Putin, but strategically important for Ukraine. So I don’t see how they can come to an agreement without demilitarizing Crimea. We could put it under a UN mandate with a mission to prepare a fair referendum after checking who is legal resident, etc… And we could delay it for 20 years,” he said.

On Thursday morning, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak also responded to these statements, who also wrote in his Telegram channel that “Crimea is Ukraine.” Refat Chubarov, head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, also responded to Sikorskyi’s words. According to him, such proposals are unacceptable and cynical, and also do not correspond to the interests of Ukraine and the Crimean Tatars.
