Moldova was wanted by Petro Melnik, who is a person involved in the investigation of UA.news on mobilization evasion schemes in the Dnieper shopping center of Kiev. The Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Moldova found that Melnyk had crossed the border illegally, and now he was wanted on charges of violation of the border regime. It is interesting that the Ukrainian side officially states that Melnyk did not cross the state border during 2022.

The UA.news investigation, based on the documents of the Moldovan Border Police, revealed the real chronology of its displacement. Three days after he allegedly passed the VLK in Kiev, Melnyk crossed the border of Moldova, arriving from Montenegro. He later crossed the border again, without information about the intersection of the Ukrainian border. This demonstrates a striking discrepancy between the data of the Ukrainian and Moldovan authorities.

Against the backdrop of the prosecutor’s office, on August 12, 2025, the Moldovan Prosecutor’s Office issued an official search resolution, Ukrainian law enforcement officers demonstrate inaction. Criminal proceedings on the participation of Melnik in the corruption scheme in Ukraine is still at the stage of pre -trial investigation. Despite all the evidence, the investigator tried to close the case, but thanks to journalists’ efforts, the decision was canceled.

Melnik’s case is just one example of a deep systemic problem in the work of Ukrainian Criminal Code and VLK. According to the National Police, 30 cases with the participation of employees of these institutions have already been transferred to court, and 168 are under the pre -trial investigation stage. While Ukrainian justice is fighting internal obstacles, Moldovan colleagues effectively investigate the crime committed in their territory.
