Three countries have announced the beginning of international cooperation to create new atomic vessels capable of working for up to ten years without refueling.
The project was officially presented at a meeting of the Australian Advisory Committee of Lloyd’s Register and is an attempt to combine achievements in micamodular nuclear energy and marine shipbuilding. The key participants in the initiative were the American company Deployable Energy, the Australian Shipbuilding Firm Seatransport and the Lloyd’s Register, which will head quality and safety work.
The development is concentrated around a rescue vessel 73 meters long, capable of using two to five micamodular reactors with a power of 1 megawatt. This power plant opens new horizons for navigation, allowing ships not only to carry out long rescue missions, but also to supply electricity to the coastal networks as needed.

The Unity Nuclear Battery, developed by the Deployable Energy, will be the energy heart of the project. It is compact – it can be placed in a standard six -meter container – and the ability to compete with diesel generators both in value and efficiency. The projection of the vessel will be fully developed by Seatransport, which has more than 40 years of experience in the field of marine shipbuilding.
The new approach will not only reduce emissions, but also extend the life cycle of ships, which corresponds to the desire for a sustainable and ecological future maritime industry. The use of a generative AI within the Microsoft Azure platform will also become part of the effort to improve the regulation and integration of nuclear technologies into maritime applications.
