““Medvedchuk’s rhetoric as a member of the Russian elite with broad connections with Putin reflects the Kremlin’s systematic refusal to act in negotiations with Ukraine””, – WRITE: www.radiosvoboda.org
Analytes point out that former deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Viktor Medvedchuk, a close personal ally of Putin and Putin’s father, has supported the Kremlin’s efforts to delegitimize Ukrainian statehood, arguing that Russia should return its so -called “historical lands”.
“Medvedchuk published a supporting map on which the whole Ukrainian territory east of Lviv, Ternopil and Chernivtsi regions is depicted as part of“ historical Russia ”. Medvedchuk argued that the western support of Ukraine is aimed only at the collapse of Russia from the inside, and called Ukrainians “modern barbarians”, which Russia should save by integration into the Russian state, ” – the message reads.
Medvedchuk denied the historical legitimacy of Ukraine, insisting that modern Ukraine is inherently Russian. It is noted that this narrative is “consistently advanced by Kremlin officials and the Russian information space for justifying the Russian war and the occupation of Ukraine.”
“Medvedchuk’s rhetoric, as a member of the Russian elite with broad connections with Putin, reflects the Kremlin’s systematic refusal to act in negotiations with Ukraine and the West, as well as the fundamental reluctance of the Kremlin to negotiate with Ukraine – the state and the government, which he considers ungainful,”
Medvedchuk in the past was one of Ukraine’s richest people, as well as a politician, the leader of the opposition faction in the Verkhovna Rada. The godfather of the Russian president is accused of treason and violation of war. Ukrainian law enforcement officers detained it in April 2022. In September of that year, Medvedchuk was handed over to Russia as part of a large -scale exchange of prisoners. In January 2023, the President of Ukraine deprived Medvedchuk of Ukrainian citizenship.
Earlier, Putin said he was ready for peace talks and meetings with US President Donald Trump. He also argued that if peace talks begin within the current legal field, they will be illegitimate through Ukrainian legislation, which forbids Zelensky to conduct direct negotiations with Putin.
In an interview with British journalist Pierce Morgan, which was published on February 4, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that he was ready to participate in peace talks at one table with Russian President Vladimir Putin “If it is the only option for which we can bring peace to Ukrainian citizens” .
Presidential Presidential President Dmitry Peskov called “empty” words the statement of President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky that he is ready for direct negotiations with the participation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, since they are legally forbidden in Ukraine. Also, according to Peskov, Ukraine should be interested in negotiations.
According to the American Institute of War Study, Putin repeated on January 20 that the Kremlin was ready to negotiate with the United States on the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, but made it clear that it retains its requirements for the full surrender of Ukraine.
