CIT investigators have identified the location from which Russian air defense fighters targeted a residential building in the Russian Federation

A group of investigative journalists, the Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT), using geolocation video and Sentinel satellite images, has identified the position of the S-300/400 air defense battery in the Russian Republic of Adygea. According to the CIT, it was from this position that a rocket was fired, which on January 20 hit a residential building in the village of Nova Adygeya near the city strip of Krasnodar. As a result of this incident, one person died and 13 were injured.

Local authorities claimed that a Ukrainian drone hit the house. But the video recordings, which were already distributed by Ukrainian Telegram channels, show both the moment of the launch of the rocket and its explosion. As established in the CIT, the rocket was in flight for eight to nine seconds, and its engine worked until the end of the flight. At the same time, it did not fly at a constant speed, but accelerated after launch.

The air defense position from which the rocket was fired is located near the village of Druzhny, almost 7 kilometers from the impact site (interactive map). The collapsed launcher shelters are clearly visible in Planet.com satellite images reviewed by RFE/RL.

As can be seen from the photos from the past months, this S-300/400 position was built on November 8-10, 2025.

Earlier, RFE/RL found a trace on a satellite image, presumably left in the nearest field by another anti-aircraft missile that had fired abnormally on the same day.
