The Government of Canada has decided to significantly increase its contribution to the Energy Support Fund, designed to restore energy infrastructure after Russia attacks.

After the US Agency for International Development refused to allocate a grant of $ 75 million, Canada has made an additional EUR 33.4 million. The country’s total contribution is now 40.1 million euros, as well as a future financing of 6.7 million euros to support Ukrainian energy.

Energy Minister of Ukraine Herman Galushchenko expressed his gratitude to Canada for her constant assistance, which lasts from the first days of a full -scale invasion of Russia.

Part of the new Canadian contribution will be used to develop solar generation systems, which will provide energy supply to critically important social infrastructure facilities, in particular in the health sector. This will help hospitals and other institutions remain functional even in difficult conditions.

Canada’s Foreign Minister Melani Jolie emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine in Russia’s constant attacks.

“Canada is proud of strengthening partnership with the Secretariat of the Energy Community to help Ukraine restore its critical infrastructure,” she said.

Canada’s International Development Minister Ahmed Hussein added that the increased contribution is a powerful signal of international solidarity.

The Energy Support Fund of Ukraine was established in April 2022 on the initiative of Herman Galushchenko and the European Commissioner for Energy Simson at the Secretariat of the Energy Community. Its purpose is to quickly solve the urgent needs of the Ukrainian energy sector in the conditions of war and destruction.

Recall that Canadian Foreign Minister Melani Zolie met with State Secretary of the United Kingdom on Foreign Affairs, Commonwealth and Development David Lemmy. During the negotiations, the parties discussed further support of Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
