People’s deputy Yuriy Boyko published a new appeal on December 17. In a video posted on TikTok, he acknowledged that his earlier statement had caused a sharp public reaction and added “a few clarifications.”

“I definitely do not want my statement to be used by the Russian Federation and war criminal Putin to justify aggression and attack on our country. If any of the Ukrainians fighting at the front or working in the rear for victory were offended by my words, I want to apologize,” Boyko said.

He also called for unity, saying that Ukrainians must be united and “put aside all internal differences”:

“I call on all politicians to do the same, unite the country, unite the people and make sure that we win and the enemy is defeated.”

The other day, People’s Deputy Yuriy Boyko, the former co-chairman of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” party, which was banned in 2022, posted a video on TikTok in which he accused unnamed “radicals” of forbidding people in Ukraine to speak their native language, go to church, which they want, demolish monuments and rename cities.

The Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk, responding to the statement of the chairman of the Platform for Life and Peace parliamentary group, said that it is impossible to talk about violence and not mention Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

The deputy head of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, Olena Kondratyuk, said that the parliament could consider Boyko’s statements at the conciliation council.

The Verkhovna Rada has prepared a draft resolution on the recall of People’s Deputy Yury Boyk from the post of a member of the Committee on Human Rights, Deoccupation and Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine after his recent statements, Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, head of the Verkhovna Rada’s Committee on Freedom of Speech, said.

Boyko, in a comment to Radio Svoboda, answering a question about whether his activity on TikTok is “preparation for the elections”, said that posting videos on the platform “has become no more than one of the directions of the communication strategy.” He also stated in a written response received on December 17 that “this has nothing to do with Russia and its narratives.”

On December 17, RFE/RL’s source in the Security Service of Ukraine reported that Yuriy Boyko came to the SBU for questioning. According to the interlocutor, “the Security Service summoned the politician for questioning, where he must explain his latest statements in detail.”
