Generation deficits and blackouts are inevitable, and at best there will be no electricity for up to 5 hours a day.
About this writes the Financial Times newspaper with reference to the words of energy experts.
It is noted that even in the best case scenario, the country will face five-hour daily power outages this winter, according to the company DTEK – and this is provided that Russia does not attack the power system again and the temperature does not fall below -15 degrees.
“Ukraine has a short-term plan to survive this winter, but to ensure energy security in future winters, we must decentralize the energy system,” DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko said.
The main problem this winter is damage to the main power plants, not substations, most of which are protected by shelters and quickly repaired, noted the former chairman of the board of “Ukrenergo” Volodymyr Kudrytskyi.
“Shortages and blackouts are inevitable,” he said. “The question is how big or small they will be, and that depends on how well the power stations are protected. Air defense is critical and decentralization must go hand in hand.”
We will remind:
Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko was criticized for the two-year delay in the decentralization of the energy sector: the department started to act in this direction only in the summer, and before that the construction of expensive nuclear reactors was lobbied.
