Blinken was asked whether there would be a consensus among European countries on the issue of aid to Ukraine if the administration of newly elected US President Donald Trump decides to stop supporting the country.
In response, he recalled that “the financing of aid to Ukraine in the war with the Russian invaders was supported in Congress not only by Democrats, but also by Republicans. At the same time, aid to Ukraine is based on global efforts, supported by more than 50 countries.”
“And what we intend to do during this administration is to do everything we can to ensure that Ukraine has everything it needs so that it can, as I said, fight in 2025 if necessary, or if there are negotiations, so that she could lead them from a position of strength,” the state secretary added.
He assured that “the USA and its allies will continue to work in the coming weeks on the transfer of ammunition to Ukraine, the mobilization of forces, the training of the Ukrainian military and more.”
“Based on what I’ve heard, I’m convinced that European support, support outside of Europe, will remain strong. And I hope that the United States will also continue the efforts that we have made,” Blinken pointed out.
Donald Trump won the US presidential elections, the change of administration and transfer of power should take place on January 20.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that after being elected president, he will be able to stop the war in Ukraine “within 24 hours.” Both in Moscow and Kyiv, these words were commented on with skepticism. The Washington Post newspaper previously wrote about the details of Trump’s alleged peace plan: it is claimed that he wants to put pressure on both Moscow and Kyiv in order to force them to make peace at the price of Ukraine giving up part of its territories, and Russia giving up other of its demands. Trump has not officially confirmed that this is the plan.
Zelensky said that he had a “great conversation” with Trump on the evening of November 6. Also, on November 7, the Ukrainian president stated that he did not know the details of Donald Trump’s plan to quickly end the war between Ukraine and Russia. He did not discuss it with the newly elected president of the United States.
