Biden’s adviser said that success at the front depends more on mobilization than on the rapid provision of weapons to Kyiv

Ukraine should do more to strengthen its position in terms of the number of forces at the front, White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in an interview with PBS News.

Sullivan was asked if he believed anything the US could have done earlier would have changed the current situation on the front. In response to this, Biden’s adviser recalled that Ukraine received tanks from the United States, as well as approval for the transfer of F-16 fighters, HIMARS and Patriot systems.

“It’s not about the past. Today, Ukraine finds itself in a more difficult situation on the battlefield, which shows that there is no direct line between these weapons systems and how it performs on the battlefield. Where is the most direct connection between Ukrainian achievements and contributions? It runs through mobilization and human resources,” he said.

According to him, no weapon system can change the situation in this battle because it is about human resources.

“Have we seen a noticeable difference since we provided tanks to Ukraine, in terms of the battlefield? Same with the F-16 fighters, do we see a noticeable difference? We believe that no weapon system can make a difference in this battle. It is about human resources. And, in our opinion, Ukraine should do more to strengthen its position in terms of the number of forces it has on the front line. It is about ammunition and all other things that make up the national strength of the country, its morale, cohesion, and industrial base,” he added.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyi has repeatedly stated that not all partners promptly transfer promised weapons to Ukraine. In an interview with Ukrainian Radio, he stated that Ukraine received half of the promised US aid.

“Regarding help. Of course, we are grateful for bipartisan support. Both Democrats and Republicans voted a total of $175 or $177 billion in aid of one kind or another. If you asked me how much we got from it, I wouldn’t go into details, I would just say: we didn’t get half. This is an important element when we talk about how and who helps us. I believe that Europe helped no less,” he said.

Also, for a long time, Zelensky called on Ukraine’s partners to remove restrictions on the long-range of Western weapons. Only a few days ago there were reports of permission from Washington to use Western weapons deep into Russia.

Martial law has been introduced in Ukraine since February 24, 2022, the day of the full-scale invasion of Russia. At the same time, general mobilization was announced. Since then, the Verkhovna Rada has extended the terms of martial law and mobilization every three months. The legislation of Ukraine provides for the mobilization of conscripts aged 25 to 60.
