Details: Delivery of Patriots from Israel to Ukraine was possible after the Israeli Air Force was officially decommissioned in April 2024.
AXIOS sources say that the Ukrainian side has proposed the USA and Israel as a plan: Israel will give the Patriot missiles back to the United States, and they will be repaired and sent to Ukraine.
In September 2024, after a few months of delay due to the fears of the response of Russia, the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyaga agreed to the plan.
According to AXIOS, because of this delay, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not want to accept calls from the Israeli Prime Minister, who asked for the annual pilgrimage of Hasidim to Uman.
Israel’s high -ranking official told the portal that Israel had informed Russia in advance of his decision, emphasizing that he “only returns the Patriot system to the United States” and does not supply weapons to Ukraine.
Over the last days, the US Air Force has arrived at the US Air Force in the south of Israel, from where they flew to the Polish Rzeszow-a logistics hub to transfer weapons to Ukraine.
Axios sources claim that this flight has been transported “about 90 interceptors for Patriot” that Ukraine can use in existing systems. The rest of the equipment, including the SAC radars, was sent to the US for repair, according to the publication.
Prehistory:
- In 2022, the Embassy of Ukraine in Israel sent the country to an official request for receiving air defense systems that will allow Kiev to resist Iranian ballistic missiles and percussion drones used by Russia.
- Israel has publicly rejected Ukraine’s request for military assistance, given the influence of Moscow in Syria, where Israeli military-air forces often act against Iran forces related to Iran.
