7,500 subscribers are still without power supply in Odesa region after the bad weather, reported Oleg Kiper, head of the regional military administration.

“Energy workers of Odesa continue to restore the light after bad weather in an intensified mode. As of 21:00, 7,500 subscribers remained without power. The work does not stop for a minute and will continue until full recovery,” he wrote in a telegram.

According to Kiper, scheduled stabilization shutdowns continue to operate in Odesa today, but emergency shutdowns without schedules continue in part of Odesa district and some district centers – they are used to prevent overloading of operational equipment.

On January 31 at 18:00, the regional authorities reported that more than 250,000 customers in hundreds of settlements remained without electricity.

Due to difficult weather conditions and icing of networks, as well as due to overloading of the power system damaged as a result of Russian strikes, large-scale emergency power outages occurred in Odesa.

At noon on January 31, the Ministry of Energy was informed about a system accident, as a result of which the high-voltage lines between the energy systems of Romania and Moldova, as well as between the western and central parts of Ukraine, were simultaneously disconnected.

Power outages were reported in a number of regions of Ukraine, particularly in Odesa.

In an evening video message on January 31, President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said that Ukrainian energy experts are investigating the causes of the technological accident in the energy system – there is no confirmation of external intervention or cyber attack. According to him, “there are more data that due to weather conditions the lines were iced, automatic disconnections occurred.”

In Ukraine, frost has set in again. It is expected that at the beginning of February, the frost will reach minus 30 degrees in some places.
