On August 28, Ukrainians celebrate the burners – the rite of completion of bread harvests. On this day, the owners and the community honored land, reinforcement and harvest. In different regions of Ukraine, the bundles, the hits, the rings, the cakes (if it were the beginning of the harvest), but the essence remained the only one – thanks to nature and joint celebration of labor.
When the last sheaf was mowed, it was decorated with ribbons, field flowers and often formed a “grandfather” – a symbol of the spirit of the field. This sheaf was placed in honor in the house before Christmas. Often the girls wore a wreath of spikelets that symbolized fertility and generosity.
