On the afternoon of January 2, Russian troops attacked Kharkiv, according to the prosecutor’s office, attacking the city with Iskander missiles.

The State Service for Emergency Situations reported that emergency and rescue operations are ongoing in Kharkiv at the site of the Russian attack, the number of victims, according to preliminary data, has reached 31. Among the victims is a baby.

“A total of 12 people were rescued. A destroyed commercial and office building and part of the adjacent entrance of a 4-story apartment building. Departments of the State Emergency Service are working at the scene: rescuers, climbers, dog handlers, pyrotechnicians, and psychologists, as well as the municipal services of the city,” the message reads. Earlier, the local authorities noted that one of the wounded was in a serious condition.

Oleg Sinegubov, the head of the Kharkiv OVA, clarified that the impact destroyed a five-story building, as well as part of the entrance to a four-story apartment building.

“Damaged window glazing and facades in nearby houses. Broken contact networks, power lines and damaged traffic lights. 13 cars were damaged,” he wrote.

According to Synegubov, as of the evening of January 2, emergency services continue to work at the site of the impact, and the search for people under the debris continues.

The Russian military regularly attacks Ukrainian regions with various types of weapons – attack UAVs, rockets, anti-aircraft missiles, and anti-aircraft missiles.

The leadership of Russia denies that the Russian army during a full-scale war inflicts targeted strikes on the civilian infrastructure of the cities and villages of Ukraine, killing the civilian population and destroying hospitals, schools, kindergartens, energy and water supply facilities.

The Ukrainian authorities and international organizations qualify these strikes as war crimes of the Russian Federation and emphasize that they are purposeful in nature.
