According to the publication, citing its own sources, Asma Asad was isolated to avoid the transmission of infectious diseases to her – she had a recurrence of blood cancer. She is not allowed to be in the same room with other people.
“Asma is dying. She can’t be in the same room with anyone,” the publication’s sources said.
It is also noted that she was previously treated for breast cancer and in August 2019 announced that she had “completely” gotten rid of the disease after a year of treatment. In May 2024, the Assad administration announced that the dictator’s wife had been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, an aggressive cancer of the bone marrow and blood.
The newspaper notes that Assad’s wife arrived in Moscow for treatment long before the Kremlin convinced her husband to flee after the rebel offensive.
