In Miami, Oscar Pastri won the third victory in a row, joining the elite company of pilots of hybrid era, which conquered similar series – earlier it was only Hamilton, Rosseberg and Ferstapppen. But does this mean that he is the key contender for the title and the undisputed leader of Mclarene? I think no.
Within 3 of the 4 decisive sessions of the stage, Norris was faster. Oscar, in turn, was able to outstrip the partner at speed only in sprint qualification, but the pure advantage of Australian in Miami was over.
Norris quickly caught up with the sprint in the sprint after that I improved and got into the DRS zone, but Piastri in section 14-15 turns cut the route – whether accidentally or intentionally to preserve leadership. After that, he immediately went to the boxes for the saliva, because the route was already dry, and it was he who had a positional advantage.
Norris, like a year ago, was lucky-the safety machine and the free sweat-stop allowed him to remain the first. But the fact of speed remains. Before stopping, the last five circles of Norris won in Pastri 0.3–0.4–0.4–0.4–1.0 seconds.
Then came the qualification, in the finals of which Oscar did not openly assembled circles, because in the second segment his time was up to a thousandth second the same as that of Norris in the finale. The British, in turn, lost pole in the last turn – he was wrong with the circle before that, and, watching as in all sessions, pilots flew there, decided to slow down earlier and career. But he overdone – and spoiled all the parts of the gate: entry, passage and exit.
This is clearly visible to the visualization of the struggle for pool between Verstapppen and Norris. According to various estimates, without an error, the circle of the British should be about 1: 27.0, while the result was 1: 27.269 – a lag from the pole of 0.065 seconds.

Well, the race itself. Lando failed at the start in the fight against Ferstapppen. Of course, it is possible to interpret and consider events in different ways, but the fact that the Dutchman had every right to turn, did not go beyond the route and contact. Therefore, it is impossible to blame Ferstappen, although if one factor was added to the incident – a fine would be inevitable. And so – again the perfect work on the first round.
Norris, however, made mistakes – knowing how Ferstappen behaves in such situations, and perhaps even knowing his powerlessness in such collisions earlier, he decided to go into too optimistic attack instead of fixing in the second place at an early stage of the race.

Although the British problems did not arise with everyone who was ahead, he lost the time and resource of rubber. But it was possible to approach the two leaders. And after the overtaking of Ferstappen Oscar, Lando immediately found himself in the DRS zone from Red Bull.
The problem is that even being faster and spending less circles on the overtaking of Ferstappen, Norris fell behind for 9 seconds due to the fight. At that time, his partner did not restrain anything – and he made himself a comfortable break. Apparently, it was at this point that Piastri and secured himself.
In the future, Norris’s pursuit of Oscar began, in which the British looked, to put it mildly, more convincing, but too far. About the middle of the section Norris was faster by 0.5-0.7 seconds from a circle, but when it reduced the lag from 8.9 to 3.3 seconds – the rinitza disappeared at the pace. With this distance, dirty air begins, and excessive wear of rubber and lock in the fight against Ferstapppen made themselves known.
The winner was not the one who was the fastest, but the one who made everything right and took the chances of fully.

Let us mention the previous stages.
Australia – Norris wins the qualifications and in the race. Piastri was relatively nearby, but only once managed to approach. After his mistake, he fell for 3+ seconds, and later flew into 9th place. More about this was in the analysis of the race.
China – Many mistakes from Norris, a fracture in the championship immediately after his triumph a week ago. And Oscar spends the perfect weekend. But the speed? She was fine in both. Until the last circles, when the British began to fail brakes, the pilots went with a lag of each other in 2-3 seconds.
Japan – Max’s strong -willed victory, and the pilots of “Papaya” in turn demonstrate the best pace, although the Australian had the opportunity to give a little rest.
Bahrain – an extreme version of the race in China as part of Mclarene. Oscar spent his best and most confident in his career, and Norris – perhaps the worst because of greater mistakes at more important moments. The absolute advantage of the Australian.
Jedda – All training and qualification, until he completed it in the wall, Lando looked like a favorite, which confirmed both the data after all sessions and the boss of the team. But the accident destroyed every chance.
Mayami It became a kind of continuation of Jedda – the one who did everything right won.
But if you remember past seasons, Piastry has never spent a stable season, although there are not many. He demonstrated powerful series from several stages, after which he always followed the decline. The question is whether this series has already begun, whether we will see a real pastri in Europe. But now Norris looks faster, and I still consider him a favorite for the title – not less than his partner, and possibly the main one.
Of course, this is only the beginning of the season, and to make any conclusions or forecasts for the championship is too early. Especially to Spain where everyone will bring upgraders as well as a WST Directive on flexibility will be put into effect. Who she shakes the most, and whom it will raise against the background of rivals, to whom the new behavior of cars will fit, and to whom not – that’s what really will have. In addition to the podium in the sprint, the team was not distinguished. But if you look closely at the podium, it was rather a desperate step that just worked. With regard to the main part of the stage – low position in qualifications have already become a trend of the season for Ferrari. The pace of red cars is traditionally much better in the race, but in Miami it was not possible to show that. Moreover, during the weekend, the car was slower than Williams, as Lewis predicted the day before.
In addition, communication within the team was just horrible: zero understanding. To hear the pilots, they had to shout on the radio and issue sarcastic comments filled with irony.
Apparently, the main question – would Hamilton and Lecler be able to get ahead of Antonelli if they worked coordinated? Let’s take a closer look at this segment.
First of all, it is worth noting that at the time when the dispute between the pilots of Skuderia began, Hamilton had a fresh set of medium tires. And it was he who gave him the advantage, because the British was frankly slow again – the time for the maneuver was limited. And what did Ferrari do? She decided to “give the DRS Hamilton” – and forgot about team tactics. Lewis was missed only after his emotional appeal on the radio. Almost five circles he lost the pace, having an advantage in the rubber, which was urgently implemented. Nevertheless, at the time of the reverse exchange of positions, Lewis’s lag from Antonelli decreased to 2.2 seconds. But Hamilton’s refusal to miss the partner in time and the poorly selected moment of exchange returned the separation to the level of 3.0 seconds between Ferrari and Mercedes.
As a result, at the finish line we have the following situation with gaps:
- Antonelli – 0.000
- Lecler +1.534
- Hamilton +3.150
Could this difference be offset in favor of Ferrari if they acted coherently? Most of all, at least one of a pair of pilots would be possible.
It is worth mentioning separately about the Lecler’s accident before the sprint. Ferrari for some reason released a monegask on an intermediate rubber during rain – usually in such conditions are used rainy without options. And Charles, knowing which tires is on, and watching the condition of the route, he went too quickly for no reason. As a result, the East before the start. It cannot be said that the pilot is completely guilty of this situation, however, the main responsibility is on the team that made an incomprehensible decision.

Having relied on an alternative strategy, the British began to increase the pace after Ferstappen’s sweat, preparing for his own visit to boxing. The security machine appeared at the best time and allowed Russell to be in the podium position without fighting. After the restart, he confidently held the place in the top 3.

On a completely new route, the Italian became the youngest pool-nister in history, although Sebastian Vettel’s record for victory in the main qualification is still valid. Unfortunately, in the sprint and the main race, Antonelli failed to keep the positions obtained at the start.
However, the main thing – the progress of the young talent Mercedes is obvious, and the results do not wait. The most intriguing moment in the context of understanding its true level will be the European stage of the championship. There, Antonelli knows well every route-especially an Imola, which will take the formula-1 already next.

Its pace throughout the race was quite competitive with the pace of Ferrari and Mercedes pilots – and this is without any discounts on a strategy or circumstance. However, even in such a successful race, questions arise to the team.
The 11th circle has an episode that perfectly illustrates communication difficulties that can occur even in the middle of Peloton. Williams decided not to attack each other – Sainz was informed that the positions were fixed and Albon would not go on the offensive. At the same time, the engineer Alex, James Erwin, informed in parallel about problems with water pressure and advised to stay behind within one second.
However, Albon, already in the DRS zone, asked directly, “Can I attack?” – And he heard in response simple: “Yes, overtake.”
This led to the moment, which Carlos Sines later described as “strange”. In Jeddy, he said, he has already played a team role, giving DRS albon for team tactics. In Miami, the Spaniard expected a synchronous breakthrough, but instead was attacked by surprise. After the finish line, Sines acknowledged that it was a common misunderstanding and expressed his hope that there would be no such failure in the future.
However, in fact, Sines had every chance of finishing both Ferrari and even intervening in the fight against Antonelli. By the time of the 34th circle, the pace of Carlos was very stable, but everything destroyed the contact with the lecturer, which was aggressively squeezed out by Sines-as a result, he was blocked by him and Hamilton and lost his position.
Albon’s speed in Miami is another argument for the benefit that Williams took a serious step forward. And in the situation with Sainso it is only necessary to state that without several small incidents, its result could be much brighter.
