ARSENAL are the CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE as Stina Blackstenius scored the only goal to STUN Euro giants Barcelona!

Barcelona were the heavy favourites having won three of the last four Champions League titles and being on for a treble this season.

But Renee Slegers’ side ended an 18-YEAR wait for an English team to win Europe’s top prize.

Barcelona had hit the bar and were piling on the pressure but super sub Blackstenius slotted home to see Arsenal bring the trophy back to London.

  • Full-time scenes The majority of the Gunners’ bench rush onto the pitch goes to Blackstenius, who scored the game’s lone goal. There is no mistaking the cries of the 5,000 Arsenal supporters in the stands.

Bonmati is devastated as the trophy is being engraved with Arsenal’s name.

As Gala’s “Freed From Desire” blares across the Estadio Jose Alvalade, Arsenal manager Renee Slegers is among the people dancing around.

  • FULLTIME – Arsenal WIN the Champions LeagueArsenal have done it.

The improbable has been succeeded as they topple the back-to-back champions thanks to a well-taken goal from substitution Stina Blackstenius to claim their first European title since 2007.

After Jonas Eidevall resigned, Renee Slegers took over as interim manager of Arsenal in October. She had to prove herself until January before being given a full-time position, and she is now lead the Gunners to European success. What a tale

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona96 – Former Barcelona player Caldentey displays excellent game management as she latches onto a cleared ball.

The Spaniard playmaker takes her time, enticing Barca bodies to foul her and so they do.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona94 – Bonmati floats another corner but again the result is an underwhelming one as Arsenal clear.

Hansen is double-marked as she approaches the box but the danger is ushered away for another corner.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona91 – Russo comes off as Wubben-Moy joins the party to strength up the Gunners backline in numbers.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona90 – Mead’s treatment has allowed for Renée Slegers to offer up some additional advice as the tension increases.

Mead is fine as play restarts with Blackstenius charging in on the Barca goal but clips an effort wide.

    Seven minutes added on.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona88 – They’re used to this Barcelona: opponents camped on the edge of the box as they craft out attack after attack.

But rarely has an opponent had a lead to defend like Arsenal do, in a stage like this.

Mead expertly earns a free-kick after a clash of bodies with Paralluelo and gets some treatment.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona85 – Hansen tries to take on McCabe but is unsuccessful as she falls to the ground and earns some stern words from McCabe in the process.

Foord makes way for the departing Hurtig.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona84 – Barca’s quadruple dreams are starting to fade after a promising start to the half.

Blackstenius’ pace and vigour has made a real difference in how the Spanish backline reacts to turnovers.

After a deflection, Bonmati’s shot is headed for a corner which eventually finds the grasp of  Van Domselaar after a failed move.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona79 – Barcelona respond to going down with changes of their own;

Brugts comes on for Rolfo and Engen does the same for Leon.

Whilst the Gunners sweat out the fitness of Foord in these closing exchanges.

  • Arsenal 1-0 Barcelona75 – Said Pajor effort would be restarted quickly by the Gunners as they took the ball up the pitch in a hurry and won a corner via Blackstenius labour.

Although the corner was first rejected, the Gunners managed to hold it. Mead curled a beautiful ball past Coll after popping it through to Blackstenius. The keeper remains still.

  • GOAL – Stina Blackstenius (ARSENAL)
  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona73 – Barcelona continue to evaluate in possession and to their occasional laxity, substitution Blackstenius nips in on their build-up before driving all the way into the box, only for Coll to present a strong and big presence to deny the opener.

The Catalans would go down the other end and see Pajor’s header blaze over from yards out.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona70 – Arsenal restart play from Van Domselaar but are straight away pegged back as Barca pick up the second ball.

Rolfo receives the ball on the left wing before swinging a ball that is presented with all sorts of danger and connected by Pajor, whose shot is deflected by Catley for a corner.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona67 – A drinks break has been ensued here in the Lisbon heat as Arsenal make a double change.

Kelly and Maanum make way as Mead and Blackstenius enter play.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona64 – McCabe makes a rare foray into the Barca box and is bundled down in the process by Battle.

There’s little protest from the Arsenal players as the Irish star makes her way back up.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona62 – Pina, who was growing into this, is taken off for a bit more vertical in the form of Paralluelo.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona61 – Putellas shifts the ball first-time to her midfield partner Bonmati.

Barcelona get a clear look on Van Domselaar’s goal as Bonmati feints and lets a strike off but is parried away for a corner.

The resulting corner once again locates Battle who strikes high and wide.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona59 – Bonmati is momentary caught in her attempts to play out before rescuing the ball quickly and progressing up like nothing happened.

She works it to Battle, but space is minimal as Hansen’s reworked cross is cleared.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona56 – The often unshakeable ball-playing presence of Williamson has been caught in the Barca pressure vortex aswell.

She carelessly plays a pass which is nicked and results in another barrage of pressure.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona52 – Barcelona continue to turn up the pressure on the Arsenal backline.

Putellas receives the ball and holds off Williamson before teeing up right-back Battle, who strikes her effort just wide from the edge of the the D.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona49 – CLOSE!

Barcelona etch into the Gunners half with some tidy display of footwork before entering the box.

Pina receives the ball, shifts onto her left and sees her shot deflect onto the bar.

They’ve certainly turned up the heat in Lisbon.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona47 – Early corner for the Catalans which is worked into the path of Pina on the edge of the box but the effort is gobbled up.

  • Arsenal O-0 Barcelona – SECOND HALF And we’re back as Arsenal get proceedings underway from left to right.

  • Well set for second-half thrillerPretty entertaining stuff so far- with Paredes having an own-goal opener for Arsenal ruled out by a tight offside call.

Apart from that, Barcelona have had most of the few clear chances – and slightly the better of a tactical game.

But Williamson has been excellent in the middle of Arsenal’s defence.

And Gunners attacker Maanum has been a regular menace when given the opportunity in the final third of the box.
