Federal Chancellor of Austria Karl Neghammer said that a peaceful settlement of the war unleashed by Russia against Ukraine is possible only with the participation of Ukraine and taking into account its interests.
He said this in an interview with PULS 24, commenting on his telephone conversation with the US President-elect Donald Trump, where considerable attention was paid to the topic of Russia’s war against Ukraine.
Neghammer emphasized that Austria, as a neutral country, could be offered as a platform for potential peace talks. However, any peace discussions must take place with the participation of Ukraine, and its interests must remain a priority.
“Together we will ensure peace through strength.” Trump has appointed a special representative on the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine
The chancellor also noted that Donald Trump has shown interest in ending the war and expressed his desire to contribute to a peaceful solution. According to Neghammer, Trump has shown emotional involvement and commitment to initiatives aimed at reducing casualties and ending hostilities.
The politician clarified that no decisions concerning peace can be made without Ukraine. The question of territorial concessions or reduction of military aid was not discussed at this stage.
Neghammer emphasized the importance of international support for Ukraine and joint efforts to achieve a just peace. He expressed hope that Trump’s interest could contribute “new dynamics” in the conflict settlement process.
