The TV presenter, 64, who fronted the children’s favourite from 1992 to 1994, has been getting frequent acupuncture to relieve the pain ever since.
Acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine. Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.
During a live show, Anthea revealed she hurt her neck while ‘flying over a vault’ and has been suffering with the pain ever since.
As she raved about her doctor, who has helped her with the injury over the years, she wrote: ‘This is me and one of my favourite people in the whole world Acupuncturist Dr Simon Cheung. He’s never posted on his insta so I won’t even bother. [laughing emoji]
‘Simon has been putting pins in me since 1992 when during a live show on Blue Peter I threw myself into a gym display team item and hurt my neck while flying over a vault (nobody knew).
‘For a week I suffered nothing was helping, then the universe put Simon in my path and after 1 session of ‘pins’ I was pain free.
‘The second picture is us in Harpers & Queen Magazine around 1997 looking a lot younger than we are now. His hair and my sharp chin – WOW !!
‘Since then Simon has pulled me through; Endometriosis, Stress, A snapped ACL, Broken knee cap, Broken Ankle, Broken 5th Metatarsal, IVF, Divorce Stress, General Stress, The Menopause, More stress, Honestly the list goes on!
‘At the moment he’s helping with my Blepharitis, it’s multifactorial but in my case largely to do with underperforming Meibomian glands.
‘Simon here is creating the best environment for the little buggers to function and something is definitely working.
‘The success of Acupuncture, like many things in life depends on who is performing the procedure.
‘Before training as a Chinese Medical Doctor Simon trained as a microbiologist and Virologist at Liverpool University.
‘He subsequently worked as a research assistant with the medical research team at the Richard Dimbleby Cancer Research Department at St Thomas’s Hospital and went on to gain his Master of Science degree in Radiotherapy & Cancer research.
‘Now he’s part of a talented group under Dr Tim Evans & Associates based in Chelsea which is where I see him either for a specific problem like now or just maintenance.
‘Best of all though are our chats wicked, funny, intuitive but both always part laughing even when I’ve been at my lowest. Thank you Simon ♥️⚡️’
During her time as Blue Peter’s host, Anthea delivered a now-iconic make recreating the famous Thunderbirds Tracy Island, considered one of the most difficult crafts in the show’s history.
Blue Peter first launched in 1958 and is the world’s longest-running children’s TV series.
In its heyday the show had eight million viewers per episode but now just 37,700 people tune in each week.
