The defiant destruction of deer in the Kyiv region caused a significant public outcry, including in the National Association of Lobbyists of Ukraine. Its specialists are preparing amendments to the legislation, which should make such cases impossible.
This is stated in the message of the Association of Lobbyists of Ukraine.
The professional community states that today’s level of responsibility for poaching does not actually deter people who kill wild animals with impunity.
The event that took place has all the signs of intentional zookilling, and the current legislation does not provide adequate tools for adequate legal qualification of such actions and fair punishment.
In this regard, a draft law will be prepared and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the near future, which will provide for:
• significant strengthening of criminal liability for poaching;
• introduction of additional qualifying features of crimes against wild animals;
• distinguishing a separate legal qualification for cases of intentional cruel destruction of animals.
The relevant proposals will be submitted for consideration by the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Law Enforcement Activities.
The law should protect not only people, but also wildlife from brazen cruelty.
