On November 28, the conference “Diplomacy today: the role of Ukraine in global politics” will be held, which will be dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Institute of International Relations. This was announced by the head of the President’s Office, Andriy Yermak, during a meeting with students of the Institute of International Studies of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University.
The meeting was also attended by: Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga, Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva, Ambassador of the European Union Katarina Maternova, Great Britain – Martin Harris, Denmark – Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Egypt – Barakat Elleiti and South Africa – Shuaib Kasu.
Andriy Yermak expressed his support for the students and teachers of the institute, whose building was damaged as a result of the Russian attack on Kyiv on November 3.
“We continue to live and fight. We have an absolutely clear goal. We are fighting for ourselves, for our land, for our people. I am absolutely sure that we will have enough strength and courage,” said the head of the President’s Office.
Director of the Institute of International Relations KNU named after T. Shevchenko, Valery Kopiyka talked about how students and employees of the institution together eliminated the consequences of shelling.
“The presence of foreign diplomatic representatives here, who came to support us and raised the issue that the war finally stops, that justice is restored and that we return to the normal course of life, is extremely important. And I believe that together we will be able to do it,” said Valery Kopiyka.
Andriy Yermak also emphasized that it is important to study and work in Ukraine, because Ukrainians seek a joint victory over the aggressor.
“We, the entire Ukrainian nation, will definitely be able to stop this war, achieve our victory, achieve a just peace,” Andriy Yermak said.
The head of the President’s Office offered to hold monthly meetings between students and ambassadors so that young people could gain experience and discuss current issues.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga called on students to join internship programs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, because now the Ukrainian diplomatic service needs new professionals.
“Your institute has always been a leading educational institution in the formation of personnel for Ukraine’s foreign policy. It was from the beginning of the declaration of independence of Ukraine. This is the intellectual epicenter where the diplomatic elite was formed – not only national, but also international,” concluded Andriy Sybiga.
