On November 13, 2024, the occupiers shot five captured servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Pokrovsky direction. Law enforcement officers have already started a pre-trial investigation into the fact of the crime.
This was reported by the Prosecutor General’s Office in Telegram.
According to preliminary data, on November 13, the Russian military stormed the positions of the Defense Forces of Ukraine near the village of Petrivka, Pokrovsky district. As a result of the enemy’s attack, five soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine were forced to retreat and hide in a private house.
“After surrounding the residence, the Russian military took the Ukrainian defenders prisoner. They were forced to leave the shelter unarmed and lie down on the ground. In violation of the norms of international humanitarian law, the occupiers shot the Ukrainian prisoners with automatic weapons,” the agency explained.
Currently, investigative actions are ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the murder and the invaders involved in its commission.
A pre-trial investigation has already been started in criminal proceedings for the commission of a war crime combined with intentional murder (Part 2 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The Ombudsman of Ukraine, Dmytro Lubinets, sent letters to the UN and ICRC asking them to record these crimes of the Russian army, he said in Telegram.
“I emphasize once again that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and qualifies as a serious international crime,” Lubinets said.
Earlier, Ukraine started an investigation into the shooting of five captured soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Ugledar by the occupiers. The relevant footage appeared on social networks.
In addition, the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine reported a significant increase in the number of shootings of Ukrainian prisoners of war by the Russian military.
