By The report, the Israeli authorities detained three people on suspicion of espionage in favor of Iran. Two of them were rewarded in cryptocurrencies. One of the defendants received $ 500 in digital assets for each task.
The detention took place a few days after the attack on Nobitex, the largest cryptocurrency of Iran. The responsibility for the break was taken over by a hacker group Gonjeshke Darande.
TRM Labs analysts have paid attention to the chronology of events, which may indicate a relationship. They suggested that the Israeli cyber divisions have accessed the internal data of the exchange – in particular, the address of wallets or the history of personal messages of users.
Officially, Israel did not confirm the connection between breakage and arrests. TRM Labs also recognized the lack of direct evidence, but emphasized that such a hypothesis corresponds to the famous tactics of Israeli services and the actions of Gonjeshke Darande.
Recall that on June 19, hackers posted the initial Nobitex exchange code. Chainalysis noted that the platform is a key node of Iran’s cryptoecosystem, which is under sanctions.
