The Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of the Lviv Regional State Administration (ODA) has started an inventory of mosaic works on the territory of Lviv Oblast.
This was reported in the Lviv Regional State Administration.
“In order to preserve, record and prevent the loss of valuable elements of the cultural environment, we started an inventory of mosaic works of monumental art. A corresponding appeal has already been sent to the district administrations with a request to provide information about existing mosaic works in their territories,” the message reads.
The inventory includes mosaics placed:
-
on the facades and interiors of public and residential buildings;
-
at public transport stops;
-
in parks, squares, squares;
-
in the composition of small architectural forms.
“We strive to collect the most complete information about mosaic works in the territory of Lviv region and make it public as soon as possible. This is an important step for the preservation of monumental art, its further accounting, research and development of decisions regarding the protection and restoration of such objects,” the department added.
Residents of the community were also invited to participate and provide information about the mosaic works known to them.
We will remind, at the end of 2025, the Deputy Minister of Culture for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitization Anastasia Bondar noted that the first initiative in the matter of preserving mosaics should come from the communities, but the ministry is ready to create a nationwide educational program on this topic together with public organizations.
In 2022, the former head of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Anton Drobovych, declared the importance of preserving the mosaics of the Soviet period and called their destruction barbarism.
In July 2021, the Ministry of Culture signed a memorandum of cooperation with non-governmental organizations on the preservation of art and architecture of the second half of the 20th century, in particular mosaics.
