Source: US Pacific Fleet on Facebook Details: It is reported that at approximately 2:45 p.m. local time, a US Navy MH-60R Sea Hawk helicopter belonging to the “Battle Cats” of the Naval Attack Helicopter Squadron 73 crashed in the waters of the South China Sea while conducting routine operations from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68). As a result of the search and rescue operation, all three crew members were successfully rescued. Following the incident, separately at 3:15 p.m., an F/A-18F Super Hornet belonging to the Fighter Attack Squadron (VFA) 22 “Fighting Redcocks” also crashed in the waters of the South China Sea while conducting routine operations from the aircraft carrier Nimitz. Both crew members ejected successfully and were also successfully rescued by search and rescue forces.
