They were laid out by the Anna’s Archive project, which decided to create an archive of the “musical heritage of mankind”.
Almost the complete archive of Spotify got into the network: the collection weighs 300 TB / photo SpotifyThe popular free online library Anna’s Archive has announced the creation of the world’s largest public archive of data from the Spotify music service. According to enthusiasts, it was possible to gain access to the files by scraping data.
Web scraping is a technology for obtaining web data by extracting it from the pages of web resources. In other words, the authors of the project did not hack Spotify’s servers, but downloaded them through third-party loopholes and by bypassing DRM protection.
As a result of large-scale scraping, it was possible to collect metadata about 256 million tracks and 86 million audio files with a total volume of 300 terabytes. As of December 2025, this is approximately 99.6% of all listens from the platform. Spotify’s complete media library includes ~256 million songs.
All tracks available for download are in OGG Vorbis format at 160 Kbit/c and have original metadata. The authors of the project stated that they are downloading Spotify data in order to create a music archive “oriented to preserve cultural heritage”.
A Spotify representative confirmed the fact of the incident and said that the investigation showed unauthorized data collection: a third-party group collected public metadata and used illegal methods to bypass DRM protection and obtain part of the audio files.
As a reminder, in September, Spotify updated the free plan for users of the streaming service. Now there you can switch compositions, search for tracks by name and even share links to songs with friends.
UNIAN talked about a new trend in buzzers – they replace music services like Spotify with old MP3 players. These gadgets are appreciated for the absence of intrusive advertising and a stable sound level.
