Belarusian intelligence officers were most interested in the location of checkpoints and fortified areas of the Defense Forces, as well as the routes and transit stops of military echelons.
In order to obtain intelligence, in 2024 the KGB recruited a 24-year-old local unemployed man who was looking for “easy money” in Telegram-channels
Hoping for a “quick side job”, the agent began tracking the locations of Ukrainian defenders in the region.
According to the investigation, he went around the border area, where he fixed the coordinates of military objects on Google maps. He received a monetary reward for this by transfers to a bank card.
It is noted that the SBU officers exposed the intruder, documented his crimes and detained him at his place of residence with relevant evidence of work for the enemy’s special services, seized as a result of the search.
In support of the public prosecution by the prosecutors of the Volyn regional prosecutor’s office, the court found the resident of Kovel district guilty of treason under martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
The prosecutor’s office specifies that the accused is in custody.
