AMU complains about the pressure of the prosecutor’s office on local self-government

On January 12, the Association of Ukrainian Cities published a statement regarding the pressure of the prosecutor’s office on local self-government.

Details: The statement was signed by representatives of 1082 communities.

Details: AMU representatives do not cite specific examples of pressure.

In particular, the Mayor of Drohobytskyi, Lviv Region, said that administrative offenses under Art. 210-1 (Violation of legislation on defense, mobilization training and mobilization – ed.).

Vasyl Sydor, the mayor of Slavutsk, Khmelnytskyi region, reports on the situation “when the prosecutor’s office finds a reason to initiate proceedings for working for the benefit of the community,” and therefore “it is safer for people not to approve the decision.”

Mayor of Dnipro Boris Filatov announced “increasing pressure on local self-government bodies”, specifying that “during blackouts, old cases are revived, dubious examinations are conducted, suspicions are announced, public reports are made on social networks, cases are taken to court, after which they actually remain motionless.”

Volodymyr Kovalenko, the mayor of Novokakhov, noted that mass dismissals are taking place in the Kherson region due to pressure from the prosecutor’s office.

What preceded:

  • The other day, Zelenskyi said that “very little has been done” in the capital, referring to preparations for an emergency situation in the energy system.
  • In response to the accusations, Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko said that he and all city services are doing everything to maintain the city’s vital activities during an emergency situation in the energy system.
