US President Joe Biden announced on December 25 that he instructed the Ministry of Defense to continue the supply of weapons to Ukraine at an accelerated pace. The statement was published after Moscow launched massive strikes on the Ukrainian energy system on the morning of December 25.

“In the early hours of Christmas, Russia launched a series of missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities and critical energy infrastructure. The purpose of this outrageous attack is to deprive the Ukrainian people of heat and electricity in the winter and to jeopardize the security of the energy system,” said Biden’s statement released by the White House.

Recalling that “in recent months, the United States has provided Ukraine with hundreds of air defense missiles and more are on the way,” the president said: “I have directed the Department of Defense to continue the accelerated delivery of weapons to Ukraine, and the United States will work tirelessly to strengthen Ukraine’s defense position against Russian troops”.

On the night and morning of December 25, Russia attacked the energy system and cities of Ukraine with cruise and ballistic missiles, as well as drones. According to the heads of Ukrainian regions, at least six people were injured in Kharkiv, one person died in Dnipropetrovsk region.

Half a million people in Kharkiv Oblast were left without heating. In Kyiv and other cities, the supply of electricity was stopped for some time.
