President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has declared earlier that Ukraine is interested in expanding cooperation with the countries of the Joint Expedition Corps and full membership in this initiative.
The Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) is a coalition created in 2014 and headed by the United Kingdom, which includes Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Sweden, Finland, Baltic countries and the Netherlands. The coalition focuses on maintaining safety in the Baltic Sea, the North Atlantic and in the Far North.
In January 2025, these countries launched increased monitoring of submarine infrastructure after suspicious damage to the submarine ESTLINK-2 and several submarine communication cables in the Gulf of Finnish on December 25, 2024. This activity is a supplement to national and NATO measures.
