In his lawsuit, he called on experts to check the similarity of the artist’s 2015 hit “Million Years Ago” and its music to the track “Mulheres”. The last composition of 1995 was performed by the singer Martinho da Vila.
“This is a landmark for Brazilian music, which has often been copied to create successful international hits,” said the composer’s lawyer, Fredimio Trotta.
As a result of checking the songs, it was found that the compositions are really similar. Therefore, the court sided with 62-year-old Geraes. Therefore, Adele was legally required to remove her hit from all streaming platforms. And now the singer has no right to perform “Million Years Ago” at future concerts, since the track is recognized as plagiarism.
According to Toninho, due to the fact that the star copied his music, he lost a large amount of money. Therefore, in the lawsuit, he also demands that Adele pay him 160 thousand dollars in moral compensation and compensate his producer Greg Kerstin.
In addition, according to the publication, Adele, Sony and Universal will be fined eight thousand dollars. Currently, the singer and the companies can appeal to the court. By the way, the star has not yet commented on the scandal.
