There is no sharp reduction in the number of defense forces of Ukraine after the end of the war – their security and readiness remain a key guarantee of state security.
Defense Minister Denis Shmigal announced this during a presentation of the Government’s Program.
“It will be a very smooth and calculated process, and it will not be fast,” Shmigal explained. The minister stressed that strong, secured and trained security and defense forces are the best guarantee of Ukraine’s security.
Shmigal also noted that after the war, Russia can remain an existential threat for a long time, so supporting the powerful army remains critical.
Ukraine is negotiating with partners on the number of the army after the end of the war. “It will be a million, or 800,000, or another figure, we are now calculating and consulting partners to reliably protect the eastern flank of Europe and NATO,” the minister said.
The joint financing of the Ukrainian army with international partners is also discussed separately.
