The client of Kyivstar could not deactivate the card of the stolen mobile phone

The woman got rid of her mobile phone and tried to block the SIM card. However, this could not be done, because the operator asked her for data that she did not remember. The client announced her case on October 18 on her Facebook page.

She was asked to name the three numbers to which she had called recently, the balance on the account, the date and amount of the top-up. However, she believes that few people keep this information in their memory.

“Dear Kyivstar, I tried to deactivate the card from a stolen mobile phone using your hotline, and not only was I unable to do it, I also felt stress. A good thank you for the constant top-up and use of services. Interesting conditions of deactivation, which are probably not relevant for a long time. Three numbers in memory that you called (with dates). And you, of course, not you. The exact balance on the account, the date top-up, the size of the top-up. I’m sure I’ll never try to keep all these numbers in my head, so the person is nervous and the memory is even more disappointing. This was a great continuation of the quest to the operator, who eventually wrote to me: “Everything is correct from our side, we are here to help you, but if you do not have complete information, namely the 3 numbers you called, two numbers are missing”, – asks the woman.

Kyivstar’s response to the complaint Kyivstar responded to the woman’s complaint. It is noted there that checks allow you to protect the number and funds from fraudsters.

“It’s a pity that you had a negative experience from communicating with the operator. We understand that it is not always convenient to have a document at hand or to remember the necessary information. But it is these checks that allow you to protect your number and funds from fraudsters. We are trying to make the process as clear and fast as possible. Please write your number and details of the situation to us in private messages for verification,” Kyivstar replied.

  • So that no one but you can replace the SIM card, the operator carefully checks the data on the number after sending the request. However, you can additionally block the possibility of independent SIM replacement (if these blocks have not been set automatically): to block the Self-SIM replacement service, dial *245*1# or 466; to check the status of the service, dial *245*3#; to unblock — dial *245*2# or call 466.
  • It is possible to remove the blocking at any time by dialing 466.
  • Despite the high level of security, the operator asks, especially if you have linked your number to a bank card, not to tell anyone the PUK code and serial number (ICC) of your SIM card – this is confidential information.
  • If your number received a message about an attempt to replace a SIM card that you did not initiate, do not worry: reboot your mobile and stay connected. This is enough to keep your SIM card safe.
