This was reported by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine based on the results of agreements during the Sixth meeting of the Ukrainian-Slovak Mixed Commission.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister of Slovakia for recovery, stability and use of European funds Petr Kmets, the Kyiv-Bratislava railway connection is planned to be launched in mid-December with a transfer in Chopa. In the future, it is planned to create a direct line Uzhhorod – Chop – Košice – Bratislava with the possibility of extending the route to other European countries.
“We see an increase in the volume of freight rail transportation both last year and this year. Passenger traffic is also growing. That’s why it’s so important for us to develop international railway passenger traffic between Ukraine and Slovakia”, – noted the First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Svyridenko.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the modernization of the “Uzhhorod – Vyshne Nemetske” checkpoint, the expansion of the throughput capacity of the “Maly Berezny – Ublya” checkpoint and the possibility of opening the “Pavlove – Matiovtse” railway station for passenger transportation.
In addition, Slovakia launched a mechanism for attracting funding from third countries to support joint projects for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
Within the framework of the Ukraine Investment Framework, 4 projects in the energy sector have already been submitted for a total amount of 143 million euros. Among them is the reconstruction of the Mukachevo-Velke Kapushany interstate electrical interconnector, the first stage of which is scheduled to be completed in 2026.
