The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) reported that the 23-year-old Russian tennis player Daniil Saveliev received a two-year ban from the Tennis Anti-Doping Program (TADP).

Saveliev, who in August 2022 reached the highest world ranking in his career in doubles – 1486th place (in singles did not rise above 1580th position), in July 2024 at the ITF tournament in South Africa passed a positive test for the banned substance meldonium.

The ITIA sent the player a preliminary notice of the anti-doping rule violation on August 20, 2024, and the player was provisionally suspended from that date. The tennis player admitted to taking meldonium and reported that he confused the family medicine with supplements of a similar type. He did not file an appeal.

Time served within the framework of temporary disqualification is included in the term of disqualification. Thus, Saveliev’s disqualification will end on August 19, 2026.

During the period of ineligibility, Saveliev is prohibited from playing, training or attending any tennis event authorized or approved by ITIA members (ATP, ITF, WTA, Tennis Australia, Fédération Française de Tennis, Wimbledon and USTA) or any other national association.

Meldonium was recently found in the body of Ukrainian football player Mykhailo Mudryk. The player of the national team of Ukraine stated that he did not use this drug on purpose and demands the opening of sample “B”. If the test “B” turns out to be positive, Mudryk faces a 4-year disqualification.
