The court announced the sentence to a 47-year-old mobilized fighter of one of the combat brigades of the Defense Forces of Ukraine, who passed the coordinates of the Ukrainian electronic warfare and artillery systems to the military intelligence of the Russian Federation.
As reported by the Security Service of Ukraine, the traitor was detained during the preparation of another report for Russian curators back in March in the border region of Sumy. The investigation established that the man was recruited through the Telegram channel on the basis of his open pro-Russian comments and support for Russia’s armed aggression, after which he was specially transferred from the rear unit to the combat unit to collect classified data.
During the detention, the agent was seized with a mobile phone containing evidence of correspondence with the Russian special services and map markings of Ukrainian army facilities on the territory of Kurshchyna. In addition to espionage, law enforcement officers found unregistered firearms and ammunition at the convict’s residence. The military counter-intelligence of the SBU documented all the facts of cooperation with the enemy at the initial stage, which made it possible to prevent damage to important defense systems and personnel.
After reviewing the case materials, the court found the man guilty of treason under martial law and illegal handling of weapons. According to the sentence, he will spend the next 13 years behind bars, and all his property is subject to confiscation in favor of the state. This judicial precedent demonstrates the inevitability of punishment for individuals who use the status of a military serviceman to aid the occupying forces of Russia and undermine national security.
It will be recalled that the SBU detained the adjuster of the Russian strikes on Chernivtsi.
The SBU also exposed the Russian intelligence network that was preparing terrorist attacks by teenagers.
