Ukrainian customs officers prevented import attempt more than 14,000 postage stamps with prohibited Nazi symbols. Violations were discovered at the checkpoint “Sheghini – Medyka” during customs control.
A resident of Ternopil Oblast Mercedes – Benz passed customs control through the “red corridor”. The 37-year-old driver declared 350 kilograms of used clothes, but during the inspection, 14,487 postage stamps with symbols of the National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regime were found among the items. Their import into Ukraine is prohibited by Law No. 317-VIII “On Condemnation of Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) Totalitarian Regimes.”
According to customs officials, the value of seized stamps on the black market may exceed 1.5 million hryvnias.
According to the fact of the violation, a protocol was drawn up according to Part 3 of Art. 471 of the Customs Code of Ukraine. The State Customs Service reminded that the smuggling of items with prohibited symbols is a criminal offense and may lead to serious liability.
