Colombia’s Transport Minister Maria Fernanda Rojas said the plane, which belonged to the state-owned airline Satena, lost contact with air traffic control shortly after takeoff.
He was flying from Cucuta to Ocaña in the northeastern department of Norte de Santander.
Satena said the plane took off at 11:42 a.m. local time and was due to land around 12:05 p.m., but last contact with air traffic control was made at 11:54 a.m.
Flight-tracking website FlightAware shows the plane’s signal disappeared nine minutes after taking off from Camilo Daza Airport.
Authorities found the crashed plane in rural La Playa de Belen after a multi-plane search, officials said.
