A new study found that all living organisms emit light

Yevgeny Demkivsky Author of news Mezha.media and GIK. I write about technologies, cinema and games. Perhaps about games with a little more passion.

Living organisms constantly emit weak light, which disappears after death. This is evidenced by the results of a new study from the University of Calgary, published in The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters.

It is a phenomenon of ultra -fabricated photon emission (Ultraweak Photon Emission (UPE) that does not require external arousal. In experiments with mice, they found that the intensity of this radiation is much higher in living animals, while in the just dead it almost completely disappears. In UPE plants, it is dynamic and changes under the influence of temperature, damage or chemical treatment.

UPE occurs as a result of chemical reactions associated with cellular metabolism and the formation of active forms of oxygen (ROS). These molecules respond to stress and start processes that lead to light radiation in the spectrum of 200-1000 nm – but it is too weak so that it can be seen by the human eye.

Researchers used highly sensitive EMCCD and CCD cameras in a fully darkened environment to observe. In mice at the same body temperature (37 ° C), the glow was recorded only in living animals. In plants, the damaged areas glowed brighter, especially after the action of chemicals or heat.

Scientists believe that UPE measurement can be a promising non -invasive method of diagnosing vital functions in animals and stressful reactions in plants.
